A family asking, from the heart

Help Fin get his second chance at life.

Fin's story

Hi, I'm Clare, mum to four amazing boys, and this is our 'All in for Fin' story.

Fin was born fighting for his life. Within minutes of arriving in the world, our beautiful baby turned blue and struggled to breathe. We were rushed to Alder Hey, where we were told our newborn son was critically ill and might not survive. We were preparing ourselves to say goodbye before we'd even had the chance to say hello.

But Fin fought.

And at just 11 days old, he went through his first open heart surgery. That set the tone for Fin's life.

He has spent his childhood in and out of hospitals, Alder Hey and Great Ormond Street, enduring multiple major heart surgeries for a rare and severe condition called Ebstein's anomaly. Every operation gave us hope, and every time he showed the same quiet bravery that still amazes us today.

To the outside world, Fin looks like any other 18 year old. But what people don't see is how hard life is for him. He gets exhausted just walking. Family outings leave him crouched on the pavement, gasping for breath. He's gone pale, collapsed, and fainted in front of strangers, frightening everyone around him, but most of all, himself.

Recently, we've been told his previous heart repair is failing. The word "transplant" has entered our world, a word no parent is ever ready to hear.

There is another option.

The world's leading expert in Ebstein's anomaly, Dr Dearani at the Mayo Clinic in the USA, has reviewed Fin's records and believes he can repair or replace the failing valve in Fin's heart. This surgery could delay, or even prevent, the need for a transplant, and give Fin something he's never really had: the chance at a fuller, easier life.

But the cost is overwhelming. $200,000 to $250,000 for the surgery alone, before travel, accommodation, visas, or the risk of complications. We both work full time, but this is far beyond anything we could ever reach on our own.

So this campaign is us going 'All in for Fin', asking, from the bottom of our hearts, for help. Even the smallest donation brings Fin one step closer to a future where he can walk, breathe, and live without fear. And if you're unable to donate, sharing this page or supporting one of our fundraising efforts means just as much.

Thank you for standing with Fin, his brothers Joseph, Jack and Jacob, and our whole family. We've carried this journey for 18 years, and we are so grateful not to be carrying it alone.

With love and thanks,
Clare and the family
